This Blog is dedicated to those who are researching the Godbey Family in America. The Godbey Family (Godby and Godbee too) is believed to descend from Thomas R. Godbey, who was born in England 1587 and came to Jamestown, Va. in the ship Deliverance in 1609.

Hello Cousins;
I am from the Missouri Godbey's
of William & John Godbey,who came to Mo 1834 from Ky & Virginia.
I have some info on my Ggggrandparents. any one wants info let me know.b.houston56@sbcglobal.net
my great grandma is Cora Alice Adams and my great grandpa is Ephra Slavens Godbey. Ephra is a descendant from the Missouri Godbeys.
I am a descendent of Mary Ellen Godbey 1849-1885, born and died in Pulaski Co, KY, who was married to John W. Jones. I believe her father was William Godbey 1800-1887. The line is a little foggy from there because of all the repeating names! Does anyone have any information from this line? Also, does anyone have any information before Thomas Godby 1587 line? My name is Sandy LaRue, from Louisville, KY. My grandparents were Ruth Jones (Mounce) and Sam Mounce of Burnside, KY (both deceased). My email address is: sunneesmyle@gmail.com. Thank you for any assistance!
My great grandpa was henry Godby born 4-8-1918 in hopewell,va. His parents were Henry A Godby and wife Georgia Sykes.

I am not a researcher, but have enjoyed learning what other researchers have discovered about our family. One point on which I have seen no discussion is the discrepancy of the Muster date of arrival (1608) and the date of the arrival of the 3rd Supply mission (1610) on which we know Godby to have been a passenger. (And more than a passenger, bless him, he and his fellow passengers had to build two new boats in order to continue their journey!) I have not seen his name in the list of passengers on the first or second supply missions, only in the third supply mission. I believe the muster record must be incorrect. Godby sailed on the Sea Venture which wrecked on Bermuda where two new ships were built, the Deliverance and the Patience. It was this ship Deliverance arriving in 1610 on which Godby was a passenger. Are my facts correct?
